April 20th Day of Action 12 pm to 3 pm. London Trafalgar Square
SOL- Save Our Livelihood
CICC,Bangaldeshi,Indian, Paskistani, Turkish catering communities formed - Ethnic Catering Alliance.
People came from all over the country, and in large numbers. Today (Sunday) we saw over 20,000 people from five different communities exercising their democratic rights to protest against the Government's policies on migrant workers, and the harsh treatments our communities are getting from the BIA.
CICC Vice Chair, Bobby Chan, made a welcome speech to our supporters. Our Chair, Yip Fai Liu, gave a passionate speech condemning the way our and other minority communities are being treated by this Government.
A number of MPs spoke at the demo - Mr Jeremy Corbyn MP, Mr Keith Vaz MP, Mr Sadiq Kahn MP, Mr George Galloway MP and Former MP and Labour Minster Mr Tony Benn all spoke in support of our campaign and condemned the Government's treatments of minority catering community. Two members of the House of Lord, Baroness Uddin and Lord Karan Balamoria also spoke of their support.
Throughout the day the is a real sense of solidarity and unity between between the communities. We now have to see what the Government will do to redress the problems they have created.

Thanks for Your help
Thank you for sending in hundreds of questionnaires to us. Our research team at CICC is now putting a report together, which we will submit to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC).
MAC will be making their recommendations to the Immigration Minister, Mr Liam Byrne MP, in June, on which occupation will be included on the SOL (Shortage Occupation List).
All occupations on the SOL will automatically get 50 points, which could smooth the way for employer to recruit workers from oversea.

BIA agrees to consider our proposal
At a meeting this week with CICC, Assistant Director of SE region BIA, Lionel Garriock, agreed to take our proposal, of granting undocumented worker temporary eligibility to work, to the Director of BIA. Commenting on the proposal Mr Garroick said "it has certain logic and merit serious consideration."
At this meeting we also brought BIA's attention to problems that are facing some employers with work permit renewals. BIA said that the new tier 2 Point Based System, which has yet to be implemented, should not affect current work permit application. They ask CICC and individual employers who are experiencing such problem to supply evidence to the BIA.
